Close to Challans and St Jean de Mont, located in the town of Saint-Gervais, the bed and breakfast Le Marais is surrounded by numerous sites testifying to the rich natural, historical, ecological but also human heritage of the region.

 

Several tours on different themes are open to amateurs: the oyster road, the salt road with its salt marshes, Bourgneuf bay, the bird circuit, the windmill road …

Further, probably unique in the world, the passage of Gois connects the continent to the Island of Noirmoutier at low tide. The Gois is also the joy of many fishermen on foot who can find clams and other shells. We discover the Bay of Bourgneuf which is today protected by dikes and unique polders in France.

The port of the Bec also called “Chinese Port” located on the road of the oyster, is, meanwhile, is known and appreciated for its mussel and oyster farming activities. It is home to a flotilla of boats fishing for soles, bass, red mullet, elvers, shrimps and cuttlefish, mainly in Bourgneuf Bay, the Loire estuary and Ile d’Yeu.

You can also visit the church of Saint Philibert of the 11th century in Beauvoir sur Mer, and the church of Bouin which offers a panoramic view of the Bay of Bourgneuf.

Saint-Gervais

To start: in Saint-Gervais, its old houses,
its castles, its national stud created in 1846, its chapel
of Bordevert without forgetting for nature lovers, its
ponds and equestrian hiking trails, pedestrian
(the GR8 bordering the coastline or the tour of the two islands
: Noirmoutier and Ile d’Yeu) and cycle tourists. Vendée has the largest French network of trails
cycle that stretches for over 1000 kms. We welcome
many hikers and cyclists a bike shelter
is at their disposal.
We are here in the heart of the marsh, a favorite place
walkers and fishermen, who appreciate the peace and quiet
tranquility of this preserved natural environment. His
vast with lights and changing reflections delight
especially painters, photographers and other poets who
can observe an exceptionally rich fauna (otters,
genets, eels, frogs and many species
migratory birds).

Hiking trails

(Very) many hikes are to be done around. Between 6 and 15km, it will satisfy all levels. Trails are regularly maintained and frequently used.

Bicycle Touring

Cycling is a real institution in the region. The Vendée has the largest bike network in France, with more than 1000km of pistes. The small differences in height make it an ideal public cycling destination. The circuits around are between 30km and 100km and go through groves, marshes and beaches.

Fauna and Flora

Our commune, Saint-Gervais, is surrounded by typical villages testifying to the rich cultural and gastronomic heritage of the region. Many ornithological observation points are scattered throughout the region. Painters, photographers and poets flock to observe the richness of the local fauna and flora. Cranes, geese, geese, otters and more rarely vultures are present in the area.

Noirmoutier and its leisure activities is only thirty kilometers away. Chateauneuf and its small mill is 7km.
